Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

With the end of 2007 the small Gariep Research Station is fully operational and equipped with water, gas, electric power and internet (via use of cellphone towers from Namibia and South Africa). The images show the location of the station at the southern bank of the Orange River, close to the Sendelingsdrift diamond mine and the head office of the Richtersveld National Park.

On 16 October, a pont and border posts were opened which allow to cross the Orange River right next to the Research Station. Now, the research facility can also support activties in the Southwestern parts of Namibia.

Scientists who wish to use the research station should direct a request to the BIOTA Head Office at Hamburg. Users of the station will also have to comply fully with the rules of the Richtersveld National Park.
