Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

Development of a storage and retrieval system for lichenological biodiversity data

The BIOTA subproject S04 is focussed on the combined gathering and digital processing of lichen diversity data in Southern Africa. Work package 1 is dedicated to the study of lichens forming biological soil crusts, to the identification of the indicator value of lichen communities by correlation analysis of various abiotic and biotic parameters, to the development of a monitoring strategy using lichens as indicators and to the training of African persons as environmental managers and para-ecologist for the long-term monitoring program. Work package 2 is devoted to the design of an advanced Java-based database client for processing geo-referenced taxonomic data.
