Keywords ex-situ conservation

Abstract The endangered and near endemic species of vascular plants from Budongo Forest (Uganda) and Kakamega Forest (Kenya) are analyzed. Budongo Forest comprises primary forest as well as secondary and disturbed forest types, while Kakamega Forest is highly fragmented and only secondary forest and a small area of near primary forest is still existent. Their Conservation Status, the reason for their endangerment and the conditions they need to recover will be assessed. In close cooperation with the Botanical Garden of Maseno (Kenya) we establish an ex-situ conservation collection of these endangered plant species of both forests.
