Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

WP7: Economic, ecological and agronomic evaluation of the on-farm cultivation of valuable forest species

Project leader(s)

Prof. Dr. Eberhard Fischer
Prof. Dr. Matthias Becker

Project description

How can indigenous tree and shrub species be used in fence lines for improved livelihood and enhanced on-farm use of biodiversity. To disburden the Kakamega Forest as source of numerous products for human life (timber, forage, firewood, fruits), selected forest species should cultivate on "free" farmland. Such plants can supply goods and services on-farm. Especially in "unproductive" hedges that usually serve as boundaries between neighbouring farms but may also separate fields within a single farm, these "economic" plant species can be cultivated. So they can contribute directly to rural livelihood.
