Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

WP1: Building of BIOTA E15 technical Infrastructure at NMK

Project description

For NMK in Nairobi E15a will set up a network for all natural science departments at NMK. The network at NMK is a pre-requisite for the installation of a database management system running SPECIFY (E15a) and VISUAL Plants(E15b). BIOTA E15a-WP1 include:

  1. Installation of domain-controllers (DC)
  2. Integration of network attached storage (NAS)
  3. Analysis of business profile at NMK for extended network services such as mail-server (SMTP-services), dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), dynamic name service (DNS), etc.
  4. Development of a domain concept related to E15 & NMK necessities
  5. Development of the security concept at NMK (incl. intrusion- & proactive failure detection)
  6. Installation of the SQL database servers (DB)
  7. Client integration of SPECIFY user interface
  8. Testing of the new infrastructure
  9. Training of NMK IT personnel and departmental database administrators (zoological domain)
