Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

WP2: Database harmonisation & migration for improved scientific information access of zoological BIOTA-East specimen- and observation data

Project leader(s)

Dr. Karl-Heinz Lampe, ZFMK Bonn
Dr. Siegfried Krause, GNM Nuremberg
Dr. Beatrice Khayota, NMK Nairobi

Project description

The network at NMK established in WP1 allows the migration of already existing specimen based data-files into one consistent data structure based on the SPECIFY database for the seven zoological departments (E15a-WP2). Integrating those data allows NMK to share their information within and between departments (intranet). BIOTA E15a-WP2 include:

  1. Analysis of NMK Natural History databases of the zoological domain
  2. Mapping of meta data
  3. Technical conversion from source format into SPECIFY-format
  4. Import of source files into SPECIFY-database
  5. Testing
  6. Training of database administrators at NMK in the above mentioned workflow (1.-5.)
