Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

The Africa Festival has been taking place since 18 years and it has become Europe's biggest festival for African music and culture. In 2005, more than 120.000 people came to Wuerzburg's Mainwiesen to witness the cultural wealth of Africa.

In 2006, BIOTA was presented by three posters concerning the questions: What is biodiversity? Why do we need biodiversity? And: What is BIOTA / what is BIOTA doing?

One poster gave some examples of BIOTA´s applied research projects. Two staff members of BIOTA permanently attended the presentation as contact persons and handed out BIOTA/BIOLOG flyers to interested visitors. A 'memory game' of Africa's fauna and flora attracted not only the younger visitors.

Noteworthy was the international representation of BIOTA mainly by PhD students from Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Namibia, Senegal and Germany.

Accordingly, the feedback for BIOTA was throughout positive, at the Africa Festival itself, as well as in the local press afterwards. In this context we would like to thank the organisers of the Africa Festival for the opportunity to present BIOTA there and for the good cooperation throughout the festival.
