For the 5th time the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz presented scientific research in the framework of a “science market” (“Wissenschaftsmarkt”) in the city of Mainz. During the weekend (9. + 10. September 2006) more than 100 scientists from various disciplines informed the interested public and offered the opportunity to experience science first hand by taking part in small projects, workshops and experiments.
BIOTA West Africa was represented by Annika Wieckhorst of the Department of Anthropology and African Studies. She is currently conducting her PhD on the socio-cultural dimension of plant diversity, particularly the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants in Northern Benin (BIOTA West Africa Subproject W11, WP 11.6).
