BIOTA West Africa at the "Garten 2007" - exhibition / Palmengarten Frankfurt/Main from 15 to 18 March 2007

The Universities of Frankfurt (Department of Ecology and Botany) and Mainz (Department of Anthropology and African Studies) presented scientific research at the "Garten 2007"-exhibition in the botanical garden "Palmengarten" in Frankfurt/Main. During four days (15.-18.03.2007) the visitors of the garden-exhibition were able to gain insight into BIOTA's research on the Sheabutter tree Vitellaria paradoxa, as well as on traditional healing practices in Northern Benin. The presentation was illustrated by a slide show documenting the production of Sheabutter and -soap, and the exhibition of African and German Sheabutter cosmetic products, Sheabutter nuts and traditional medicinal products.

The concept of this exhibition was named "Gartenvielfalt" (garden's diversity) and included house gardens (Hausgärten), leisure gardens (Freizeitgärten) and gardens for daily use (Nutzgärten). In this framework Annika Wieckhorst from the Department of Anthropology and African Studies presented her research about the medicinal plant garden Guson in Northern Benin on Friday, 16th March 2007 to some interested auditors.
