Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

Project description |
In this workpackage, the comprehensive datasets on bat, amphibian, and plant distributions developed during the first phases of BIOTA are combined (and complemented) with spatial data on environmental parameters. Applying ecological niche models, habitat requirements of focal taxa are analysed at different spatial resolutions, incorporating the relation between range size, species occurrences, and characteristics of the environment. Our aim is to understand the driving force behind species richness within and among different taxonomic groups at different spatial scales, thus providing the necessary baseline data for the following workpackages (CT1-T2-WP2 – WP4). |
